Circus Jim has taught circus skills to many Amateur Dramatic or Operatic societies preparing to present the musical show. Walmsley Church AODS, Bolton in Autumn 2008, others include Long Eaton OS, Notts, 2008 and Stockport Operatic Society in 2006. There have been many others over the years.
In the 1991 Jim taught Paul Nicholas to walk the tightrope, in preparation for the lead role of Barnum.
Skill acquisition is best achieved over a couple of sessions, ideally with some time to practice in between. I do a range of skills, hand held – balancing peacock feathers, spinning plates, scarf juggling ( achievable quickly by 10 yr olds upwards) ball juggling, diabolo, devil stick. Stilt walking, unicycle, maybe simple human pyramids and balances. Some skills are readily achievable, I start with those to boost confidence, other skills need practice. I use games while teaching, some skills I teach to the whole group, others I demonstrate and then work one to one or with small groups. I can also throw in some ideas for incorporating the skills in the show too if you want.
Some Equipment can be hired for the performance e.g. Tightrope and stilts as seen in Walmsley Church AODS performance. Small equipment can also be purchased at a reasonable rate e.g. Juggling balls, spinning plates, diabolos.
